What is the FAA's role in aircraft safety?

There are many companies, agencies, businesses and entities involved in ensuring the planes you fly in out of New York are safe. One such agency is the Federal Aviation Administration. You have probably heard of the FAA before, but do you know what it does to keep your flights safe?

The main purpose of the FAA is aircraft safety. It manages regulations and oversees the industry to ensure planes and other aircraft are manufactured, maintained and used safely. It does research and introduces new technology to help increase the safety of the planes you fly in.

The FAA ensures that navigation and air traffic control standards are met. It runs routine checks of manufacturing to ensure aircraft parts are being made properly without defects. It works with other agencies to help maintain regulations for aircraft.

It also manages pilots and other air personnel to ensure they have adequate training and skills to properly operate aircraft. This includes the newly formed segment of commercial space travel.

When accidents occur, the FAA helps to research what happened so it can help to ensure it does not occur again. It develops programs and operations to help advance the industry while also ensuring accidents do not occur. The FAA's work is for both civilian and military aircrafts both inside and outside the U.S. When international flight is involved, the agency works with international agencies as needed. Through recordkeeping, research, development and regular operations, this agency helps to make flying one of the safest forms of transportation.
