Montana airplane crash kills all four on board

Those in New York who fly private airplanes may be interested in a crash that occurred in the midwestern United States. Four people died as a result of the single-engine airplane crash 25 miles north of Billings, Montana in the Bull Mountains. The crash happened in the evening on Jan. 11, 2020.

A 69-year-old man was the pilot of the airplane. A 36-year-old man, a 32-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were passengers on the plane. All of the passengers were from Billings. The plane carrying the passengers was a single-engine Cessna 182. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were called in to investigate the crash. Though the crash is still under investigation, preliminary findings show evidence of the plane clipping a guy-line radio tower wire before going down.

Authorities were first alerted to the small plane accident at 3:10 a.m. on Jan. 12 when the plane was reported as missing. The Yellowstone County Sheriff's office worked with local agencies to look for the plane's last location via radar. Radar results led authorities to a site 30 miles north of Billings. The plane's crash site was found after officers used a helicopter to fly to the plane. All four on board were dead when authorities reached the crash site. The bodies were recovered later that day by officers.

Small plane crashes often cause loss of life that devastates an entire family. Plane crashes may occur because of a pilot error or a mechanical failure. Families who have lost a loved one in a private airplane accident might be able to collect damages by filing a civil suit for wrongful death. A lawyer may be able to help determine if the pilot or plane manufacturer acted negligently. If negligence can be proven, a family might be entitled to compensatory damages by the insurance company.
