Small plane crash kills father and son

New York residents who have flown in small planes may have read about an airplane crash that occurred in northern California. Two people died and one individual was injured as a result of the January incident.

Three people were reportedly on board the single-engine Stinson Vultee V-77. An 80-year-old man and his 55-year-old son died. The 55-year-old was an employee of the Rancho Cordova Police Department. Authorities say that one of the men died on impact and the other man died at the hospital.

The private airplane crash occurred shortly after the plane took off from the Auburn Municipal Airport. Residents of the neighborhood where the plane went down say they heard the plane flying low. The plane crashed wing-first into a grove of trees. Witnesses say that the plane was extremely mangled. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are assisting local authorities with the investigation as to why the plane crashed. As there was a significant amount of fuel spilled onto the ground after the crash, the Placer County Fire Departments and CAL FIRE crews are testing to see if groundwater will be affected.

Small plane crashes often result in serious injuries and fatalities. There could be one or more of several reasons why these types of incidents happen, including a design defect or pilot error. The surviving family members of people whose lives have been lost in such a catastrophic event might find it advisable to meet with an attorney who has experience in aviation disasters, as legal counsel might be able to review the available evidence and conduct additional investigations in order to determine the party or parties that should be held financially responsible.
