Occupants survive small plane crash into river

Thousands of small plane flights happen every week across the country, and there are probably more flights taken by propeller aircraft than by passenger jets around the world. Although there are many advantages to smaller aircraft, they may be more prone to weather events and other risks.

But some problems with flights are neither the fault of pilots or so-called acts of God. Aircraft require regular maintenance and their parts must be of the highest quality. If manufacturers or other people helping with plane construction and conditioning are negligent in their duties, they may be liable for the results of accidents.

Two people aboard a small plane recently survived an accident that involved a crash into a river. The single-engine aircraft was apparently attempting to land at an airfield in Washington State when it appeared to witnesses that the landing gear was not down.

Responding officials say the plane then headed for the river before skipping along the surface. The two occupants of the plane managed to escape before the plane sank and swim ashore, where they were transported to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

The accident is still being investigated by local authorities. If it turns out that the landing gear malfunctioned due to a problem caused by a manufacturer or maintenance contractor, the people involved may have a case for financial damages.

An attorney can often recommend the best strategy after a small plane crash. Legal representation is often helpful when people are considering any sort of claim after personal injury or property loss after an unfortunate incident.
